Introduction to Botanical Dyeing
An opportunity to explore the fascinating process of extracting colour from plants and using it for dyeing natural fibres such as raffia, cotton, wool and silk.
The workshop will provide an introduction to the process of botanical dyeing. It will cover how to prepare various materials with a mordant before dyeing them; how to exrtract colour from plant material such as bark, berries, leaves and vegetable matter; how to adjust and enhance the colour; and how to dye your fibre.
During the workshop we will be using four different mordants; four different dyes and four different fibres and you will have the opportunity to dye your own material.
